2006-2008 RAM Tachometer Fix/Repair
Time: approx 1 hr
Difficulty: moderate (soldering)
Cost: $0
The tachometer on the Dodge Ram pickup has been prone to failure for nearly a decade (2000’s). On the back side of the instrument cluster, two microchips are prone to have their legs vibrate free of the solder on the circuit board. Many have condemned the cluster as a whole, replacing it. This costs both time and money as the newly purchased instrument cluster must be shipped and calibrated to match the current odometer reading.
Fortunately, in almost all cases, the repair can be made quickly and at no cost. The instrument cluster on these pickups comes out easily, and the soldered joints can be refurbished easily with a little heat. While the removal of the cluster varies slightly from model year to model year, the cluster repair is the same. Watch the video below to see the removal, repair, and installation of the instrument cluster on a 2006-2008 Dodge Ram pickup, restoring the tachometer to original working order. No programming required.
