2006-2012 Rav4: Oil Pan & Gasket Replacement

Time: approx 1hr

Difficulty: moderate

Cost: $75-100

WHY

Oil leaks. The need to replace the engine oil drain pan or gasket is usually a result of a leak. Losing oil can lead to costly repairs and unsightly oil stains on the driveway. Oil pan leaks can come from stripped out drain plugs, failed gaskets, or physical damage. A deformed oil pan can also affect oil level indications and system capacity.

METHOD

Replacing the oil pan on a 2006-2012 RAV4 is relatively simple and inexpensive if you're doing it yourself. The pan on the 2.4L drops easily for replacement. Drain the oil first and wait for the exhaust to cool before starting work.

Watch the Video Below

In this video, you'll see me replace the oil pan on a 2007 Toyota RAV4. The drain plug had stripped out and replaced with an oversized plug. This plug also failed which required replacing the engine oil pan. The process is the same for 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012 Toyota RAV4's with the 2.4L, 4cyl engine. Included are links to parts and tools needed to do the job. Don't forget to like and subscribe!
