2007-2013 Silverado: Crankcase Flush

Time: 30-45 min

Difficulty: easy

Cost: $40-60 (cost of an oil change, treatment chemical)

A crankcase flush is good maintenance, but it can also correct a false "low oil pressure" problem on GM 5.3L and 6.0L engines. The oil pressure sender sits at the end of an oil passage on top of a small screen filter. With time (especially with a poor maintenance history) the oil passage ways and fine screen can be restricted by a buildup of oily sludge. This prevents the sensor from getting an accurate reading. The indications may include fluctuating or low oil pressure readings on the gauge, and possibly a "Check Engine" light with a PO560-563 code. Performing a crankcase flush can often clear up the problem.
