2019-2024 Sierra/Silverado:: How to Replace the Cabin Air Filter

Time: 5-10 minutes

Difficulty: easy

Cost: $15-30 (brand preference)

GM Recommended Interval: 22,500 miles

FUNCTION

The heating and air conditioning system draws fresh outside air into the cabin where it is filtered prior to being heated or cooled and ducted to the various outlets.

WHY SERVICE

Besides ensuring quality air for breathing, the cabin air filter ensures the efficiency of the climate control system. If the filter becomes restricted with dirt and/or moisture, airflow suffers.

INTERVAL

The cabin filter is typically replaced every 15-30,000 miles. Heavy dust or salt environments, humidity, and HVAC load each affect the lifespan of the filter. If the filter appears dirty, replace it.

METHOD

The filter is serviced by opening the airbox, then removing and replacing the filter element. It's a good idea to vacuum out the airbox at the same time.

The video below shows the filter replacement on a 2019-2024 GMC Sierra 1500. The process is the same for the 4th generation Chevy Silverado, Tahoe, Suburban, and GMC Sierra, Yukon, and Escalade in 1500, 2500, and 3500 chassis.
